rainy season starts early, and hard!
The first rains of the season started Saturday night. The skies have been filled with clouds the past few days, bearing down on us, just looking like they want to unload. I went to the court a little before our game, and as usual, they were running behind. Only one other teammate was there. Apparently the rest of my team was out getting drunk, since all of them were going to a baile (dance) that night. As I was waiting, the lights went out twice and it started drizzling once until it rained. HARD. The refs were the first ones running off the court, leaving their table, chairs and more importantly, score sheet behind. They didn't even whistle the premature end of the girls' game until they were safely taking cover in a nearby tienda (store)! The girls that were playing had to gather everything. Even tho one of the girls' teams was complaining that they lost because they weren't able to finish, the word on the street was they couldn't have won even if they had played that last quarter. Anyways, since our team was up to play next, the refs asked us and the opposing team when we could reschedule. Since neither team was available to play at the same time, the refs smirked at us and said we'd be playing a double header in two weeks. (The refs can decide when the games are played.) They looked at the the few of us from our team and told us we were lucky. And we were. It seeemed they already had an idea of what my teammates were up to. Great. We have two games, one the reschueduled with the "Raiders" the other with "Los Fantasmas", the other "best team" in Oratorio. April 14 should be a tiring yet exciting night!
