Lo mas barato sale mas caro

As the Guatemalan phrase states - "Lo mas barato sale mas caro" - or simply in English, you get what you pay for (the cheapest leaves you the most expensive).

As if the weather was sayin, "Welcome to the rainy season, beeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaatcchhh" it rained and rained and rained. HARD. It must have rained like a monsoon for four hours Saturday night. The power went out a few times, streets flooded, and must have kept some people awake at night. But not me! Not this time in my new house! I just slept peacefully to the sound of the river roaring away next to me. :)

Sunday morning as I was leaving to take Luna to take care of her business, I heard the pharmacist in the farmacia screaming out words like "A la gran!" and "Que mierda es eso!" I asked another neighbor what had happened. Apparently he had reason to use profanity. His pharmacy had flooded overnight from the heavy rain. Well, maybe that wasn't the only thing.

We live next to a river... which they call "Rio Shuco". It starts somewhere in the hill/mountain next to our town and collects the runoff from the rain, among other things. Many folks in rural Guatemala, as disgusting as this may sound, instead of paying sewage, many in this town who live next to a river are used to just connect "the line" to a huge PVC tube that goes into the river. Sometimes, rather than measure out tubes, some just shortcut and use an existing piece of tube, even if it's smaller. Also, some don't enjoy to dig too much either.

There was a tube with an exit going into the river. Apparently its almost horizontal, and its not pointed in the same direction as the flow of water, rather it is facing the flow of the water...

In conclusion, I'm glad I live on the 3rd story.
